Architecture Guild – Amazon Kiro

Every month, our Architecture Guild brings together Solution Architects to do what we do best — cut through the hype, get hands-on with emerging technologies, and share what we find with each other. December 2025’s session was a particularly lively one.

With AI coding tools dominating conversations across every engineering team we work with, we decided it was time to put one of the newest entrants under the microscope: Amazon Kiro, AWS’s agentic IDE that promises to take developers from a rough idea all the way to production-ready code — structured, tested, and documented.

The session opened with a briefing on what Kiro actually is, how it differs from the wave of AI assistants already in the market, and why its spec-driven approach represents a meaningful shift in how agentic development tools are being designed. We then went live — feeding Kiro a single prompt to build a full Trello clone in Next.js and Tailwind CSS, and walked through everything it generated in real time, from requirements documents to working drag-and-drop boards.

The recording of that session is now available. Whether you were in the room with us or are catching up now, we hope it sparks ideas about how your teams might adopt — or evaluate — tools like Kiro as part of your development workflow.
